Chinese Delegation Tours National Theatre Ahead of Major Renovation
Accra, Ghana — December 2025: A high-level delegation from China has visited the National Theatre in Accra as part of ongoing preparations for a comprehensive renovation of the iconic cultural landmark.
The visit, undertaken in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, marks a significant step toward the long-awaited restoration project.
Tourism Minister Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie noted that the refurbishment aligns with the Theatre’s new five-year strategic vision and acknowledged China’s longstanding contributions to Ghana’s cultural and infrastructural development.
Acting Executive Director Mr. Henry Malm and Board Chair Mrs. Korkor Amarteifio highlighted the urgent need for modernization to meet the demands of today’s creative industry and to elevate the Theatre to international standards.
The Chinese delegation, led by Mr. Li Yaohong, assured Ghana of continued cooperation and technical support to ensure a world-class outcome. Senior officials from both the Ministry and the Theatre were present for the tour.
