Accra, October 22, 2025 — Former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware-Aboagye, has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the alleged insertion of ghost names into the NSS payroll system.

The case, which has sparked renewed debate over public sector accountability, involves accusations that several fictitious names were added to the scheme’s payroll, resulting in illegal salary payments. Prosecutors allege that the scandal led to significant financial losses to the state.

Appearing before the Financial and Economic Crimes Court in Accra, Mrs. Oware firmly denied the allegations. The court granted her bail, and the case has been adjourned for further hearing
