Gomoa Central MP petitions Speaker to remove Hon. Abena Osei Asare as PAC Chair
JHNews || The petition by the Gomoa Central MP adds fuel to growing scrutiny over conflicts of interest and ethical standards in Ghana’s parliamentary oversight committees, especially as corruption-related investigations continue to unfold.
Accra, November 3, 2025 — Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has written to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, calling for the immediate removal of Hon. Abena Osei Asare as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
In his letter, Hon. Obeng argued that Hon. Osei Asare’s close association with the Ministry of Finance during her tenure as Deputy Minister under Ken Ofori-Atta compromises her impartiality in overseeing public expenditure and accountability. He cited her links to several controversial contracts — including the Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited (SML) deal and the ECG–Beijing Jao Loss Reduction Agreement — both under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The MP further accused Hon. Osei Asare of defending questionable actions by key government officials, including the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), saying her conduct raises “serious doubts about her commitment to transparency and accountability.”
Hon. Obeng urged the Speaker to safeguard Parliament’s integrity and public confidence by removing her from the role, stressing that her leadership undermines the impartiality of the PAC.
