Government Endorses Otumfuo’s Bawku Report, Sets Up GH¢1bn Revitalisation Fund
JHNews || Government has endorsed the peace plan from Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on the Bawku crisis and launched a GH¢1 billion revitalisation fund to drive reconciliation, development, and stability in the conflict-affected communities.
Accra, Ghana — December 12, 2025 — The Government of Ghana has officially endorsed the peace and reconciliation report presented by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on the longstanding Bawku chieftaincy and communal conflict. In line with the recommendations, government has also established a GH¢1 billion revitalisation fund to support peace-building, development and social cohesion in the conflict-affected area of the Upper East Region.
The endorsement comes after months of intensive mediation led by a committee of eminent chiefs chaired by Otumfuo, which engaged warring factions, traditional authorities, and civil society to chart a sustainable roadmap for peace in Bawku.
Government officials said the revitalisation fund will focus on infrastructure, economic empowerment, education, health, and community reconciliation programmes aimed at addressing the underlying causes of the conflict.
In a statement, the Presidency reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the report’s proposals and collaborating with traditional authorities and stakeholders to ensure lasting peace in Bawku. Details on the operational framework for the fund are expected to be released soon.
The move has been welcomed by some local leaders and peace advocates, who say it marks a significant step toward healing divisions and fostering development in the area.
