President Mahama to Launch “Nkoko Nketenkete” Poultry Initiative in Ashanti Region

Kumasi, November 2025 — The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has announced the official launch of the Backyard Poultry for Nutrition and Livelihoods initiative, popularly known as Nkoko Nketenkete. The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, 12th November 2025, at the Jubilee Park, Kumasi, beginning at 12:00 p.m., with President John Dramani Mahama and Hon. Eric Opoku, Member of Parliament, in attendance.

The Nkoko Nketenkete initiative aims to promote household poultry keeping to enhance nutrition, strengthen food security, and support sustainable livelihoods across communities in the Ashanti Region and beyond.

As part of the launch, up to fifty (50) live birds per applicant will be distributed to individuals who applied through their respective District or Municipal Assemblies for home poultry rearing. Special arrangements have also been made for commercial-scale poultry farmers, including technical and logistical support.

The public is invited to participate in this event, which is expected to play a key role in job creation, poverty reduction, and food self-sufficiency.
