Francis Abu have had a successful surgery following his injury during Ghana's game against Japan in the Kirin Cup
During the second half of Ghana’s 2‑0 friendly loss to Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup (Nov 14, 2025), Abu was fouled by Ao Tanaka and suffered a double fracture of his right leg. He was stretchered off and taken to Toyota Memorial Hospital.
The operation was performed on Nov 15 by a Japanese team in collaboration with Black Stars head of medical Dr Prince Pambo and Toulouse FC doctors. The GFA announced the procedure was “successful” and the acute phase of rehab has started.
A dedicated physiotherapist will stay with Abu in Japan for intensive therapy, and a senior member of the Black Stars technical staff will travel with him back to France once he’s discharged.
The GFA says the focus now is on the early rehab stages, with plans to keep the public updated as he progresses. Unfortunately, the injury rules him out of the 2026 World Cup.
The GFA thanked fans for their outpouring of support and reiterated that they’ll do everything possible to get Abu back stronger.
So, the surgery went well, the rehab is underway, and everyone’s pulling for a full comeback. Let’s keep the good vibes coming for Francis!
