Mahama Assures Exim Bank of Support to Recover Loans from Defaulters

President Mahama said the recovery of the loans was critical to restoring GEXIM’s capacity to finance viable businesses and industrial projects that can create jobs, promote exports and contribute to Ghana’s economic growth.

He made the remarks on Friday, August 28, during the commissioning of the Northshore Apparel factory in Savelugu in the Northern Region.

The President said GEXIM was established to provide financing for projects that promote value addition, exports, employment and sustainable development.

He expressed concern that access to financing from the bank had previously been dominated by politically connected individuals who, he alleged, obtained loans without the intention of repaying them.

President Mahama said the current management of GEXIM was therefore pursuing several loan beneficiaries to recover public funds.

He pledged continued government backing for the bank’s recovery efforts, arguing that recovered funds could be channelled into productive businesses capable of generating employment and expanding Ghana’s export base.
