In a shocking display of desperation, residents of Teacher Mante near Suhum rushed to the scene of a tanker accident and began siphoning fuel, despite the high risk of explosion and serious injury.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred yesterday when a lorry carrying fuel overturned and began leaking. Within minutes, locals armed with buckets and large containers arrived, intent on collecting the fuel. The authorities have warned the public about the severe dangers of such actions — including fire, poisoning and death — yet the rush continued unchecked.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has been deployed to the scene, and local police are investigating possible criminal behavior linked to the fuel grab as well as the underlying cause of the vehicle crash.
