Two Men Jailed 15 Years Each for Robbery and Sexual Assault of 19-Year-Old Hairdresser in Tema
JHNews || The Tema assault case is a stark reminder that Ghana’s streets are becoming unsafe for women — and unless authorities intensify protection measures, predators will keep preying on the vulnerable. Justice has been served for now, but the real test lies in preventing the next attack.

In a chilling case that has shocked the nation, two men — Nicholas Tetteh and Joseph Tetteh — have been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each with hard labour for robbing and sexually assaulting a 19-year-old hairdresser along the Apollonia–Afienya road in the Tema Region.
The incident, which occurred on September 27, 2025, involved the young woman being lured by one of the convicts under the guise of a transport service. According to police reports, Nicholas and Joseph, together with another accomplice who remains at large, conspired to brutally attack, rob, and sexually assault the victim during the ride.
The attackers stole her iPhone XR and a handbag containing GH¢150, leaving her traumatized. Despite her ordeal, the victim bravely reported the incident to the Zenu–Atadeka District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), received urgent medical treatment, and cooperated with investigators to track down the culprits.
During court proceedings, both Nicholas and Joseph pleaded guilty to charges of robbery. They were subsequently convicted and sentenced by the court to 15 years imprisonment each with hard labour. However, rape-related charges remain pending as the police await formal advice from the Attorney-General’s Office.
Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities have launched a manhunt for the third suspect, who is still on the run.
The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to justice, condemning the heinous act and pledging continued support for survivors of sexual and violent crimes. Officials also cautioned women and girls — particularly those using commercial motorbike transport — to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious behaviour.
